Sangamon Valley Christian Church began in September of 1980 with a handful of families under the leadership of Pastor Brent and Judy Roberson. They desired to plant a Spirit-filled church in Mahomet. After holding their first year of services in the Community Center, they began meeting in an oversized garage at “The Green House” on Spring Lake Road. By 1984 they had purchased a facility on Washington Street, which still serves as our church gathering place today.
The desire of Pastor Brent and Judy to be a Spirit-filled family church for the community was birthed, and it continues today under the leadership of Pastor Caleb and Andrea Ingrum. Gather with our church family as we follow Jesus and reach out in the power of the Spirit of God.
Jesus Christ is the only hope of humanity. Jesus loved us and died to save us from the penalty of our sin and rebellion. The salvation He brings begins with a person’s decision to put
faith in Him. That decision opens a lifetime of being healed, restored, delivered from oppression, and set free to stand in spiritual, emotional, and physical wholeness (Luke 4:18).
Some of Jesus’ last words to His disciples concerned empowerment.
He charged them to carry on the good works He modeled for them.
He promised that He would send the Holy Spirit to give them the power to spread the good news about Him.
On the Day of Pentecost, in Acts 2,
the disciples experienced the presence and power of God
as they became witnesses
of Jesus Christ.
Jesus went about “doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38). Jesus draws us to Himself in love and then touches us with
healing power. He perpetuates that healing power by promising that signs and wonders would follow His followers as they went out to minister (Mark 16).
As Jesus ascended into Heaven,
the angels declared that He would return to take His church to live with Him forever (Acts 1). This is the great hope of those who believe
in Jesus as their Savior (John 14:1-3).
Youth is a unique period of life, one filled with exploration, discovery, excitement, and fulfillment. The SVCC Youth Group provides a nurturing, loving environment for young people exploring the world. It is a safe place where faith guides exploration and self-discovery.
Our 6th-12th graders meet throughout the school year for a time of connection, Bible Study, and having fun together. Contact the church office to find out when they are meeting next.
As a Foursquare Gospel Church, we are "Dedicated unto the cause of inter-denominational and worldwide evangelism."
WHY WE ARE AFFILIATED WITH FOURSQUARE:
Kids Min is the children’s ministry (birth through 5th grade) of SVCC and our goal is to make this your child’s favorite part of the week!
With trained volunteers, fun music, great games, and Bible teaching, we seek to communicate the love of God and the story of Jesus to your children in a relevant way and keeps their attention. We utilize the Tru Fire curriculum from My Healthy Church in our children’s ministry.
Children are encouraged to attend their age-specific classrooms, which are downstairs. However, children are also welcome to remain in service with their parents.
If you need a place to take care of a baby or young child, we have a Mother’s Room available with a few toys and diaper changing supplies. The Mother’s Room is located upstairs through the double doors at the back of the Sanctuary across from where you entered and up the stairs to the left.
